Retrieval of Terrestrial Plant Fluorescence Based on the In-Filling of Far-Red Fraunhofer Lines Using SCIAMACHY Observations

چکیده
Chlorophyll fluorescence is directly linked to the photosynthetic efficiency of plants. As satellite-based remote sensing has been shown to have the potential to derive global information about fluorescence it has become subject of various recently published studies stimulating an upsurge in this research field. This manuscript presents a simple and fast retrieval method for solar induced terrestrial plant fluorescence (SIF) which relies on only a few prerequisites. The spaced based remote sensing spectrometers used in this work typically exhibit an additive spectral feature, which is not fluorescence. This is often accompanying the actual SIF retrieval and can significantly deteriorate the results. To account for this effect a correction method has been developed and is combined with the retrieval. The method has been applied to 10 years of SCIAMACHY data with promising results. The retrieved SIF values are lying between 0 and 4mW [m−2 sr−1 nm−1]. However, most of the retrieved values are not exceeding 1.5 [m−2 sr−1 nm−1], agreeing with previous studies on the subject. Results have been retrieved for SCIAMACHY spatial resolution of 240 30 km2 × and gridded to 80 arc minutes. A clear seasonal variation could be shown utilizing 10 years of SCIAMACHY data (2002–2012). In absence of large area ground based validation data a final judgment of the results presented is not feasible. However, a direct comparison to data of others was showing similar results for most areas.

Global monitoring of terrestrial chlorophyll fluorescence from moderate-spectral-resolution near-infrared satellite measurements: methodology, simulations, and application to GOME-2
Globally mapped terrestrial chlorophyll fluorescence retrievals are of high interest because they can provide information on the functional status of vegetation including light-use efficiency and global primary productivity that can be used for global carbon cycle modeling and agricultural applications. Previous satellite retrievals of fluorescence have relied solely upon the filling-in of sola...
متن کاملDisentangling chlorophyll fluorescence from atmospheric scattering effects in O2 Aband spectra of reflected sunlight
[1] Global retrieval of solar induced fluorescence emitted by terrestrial vegetation can provide an unprecedented measure for photosynthetic efficiency. The GOSAT (JAXA, launched Feb. 2009) and OCO‐2 (NASA, to be launched 2013) satellites record high‐resolution spectra in the O2 A‐band region, overlapping part of the chlorophyll fluorescence spectrum. We show that fluorescence cannot be unambig...

A global, monthly averaged time series of Sun-induced Fluorescence (SiF), spanning January 2007 to June 2015, was derived from Metop-A Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment 2 (GOME-2) spectral measurements. Far-red SiF was retrieved using the filling-in of deep solar Fraunhofer lines and atmospheric absorption bands based on the general methodology described by Joiner et al, AMT, 2013. A Principal...

Hyphenating High Temperature High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HT-HPLC) with High Temperature Size Exclusion Chromatography (HT-SEC) (High Temperature Two Dimensional Liquid Chromatography (HT-HPLC x HT-SEC or HT 2D-LC)) leads to an isocratic elution in the second dimension, which in turn enables to use IR detector (quantitative detection) for monitoring the eluting polymers. Experimental...
متن کاملEffect of Plant Growth Regulators on Soluble Carbohydrates, Photosynthetic Pigments and Chlorophyll Fluorescence of Sirvan and Homa Wheat Cultivars in Rainfed and Irrigation Conditions
Adverse environmental conditions cause stress in plants, and some plant growth regulators (PGR’s) improve plant tolerance to these undesirable conditions. In order to study the effect of gibberellin, cytokinin and cycocle on some physiological traits of two wheat cultivars under different irrigation regimes, a study was conducted as a split-split plot experiment based on a randomized complete b...
